On this occasion of the International Women’s Day 2018, I salute all women who are pursuing their career in Procurement & Supply Chain. There has never been a better time for women to enter this field. The kind of talent that is needed in this industry today is that of orchestrator-people who are able to pull together different pieces and teams to work across work organizations and silos. This is something that most women naturally do well.
The first lesson of supply chain (i.e. procurement, inventory management, forecasting & planning and logistics) we learnt from our mom who are generally good in managing home and kitchen which included making grocery list (demand and supply analysis), Estimating how much perishable products to buy (inventory model), which shop or vendor should prefer (procurement), checking/tally bills received and managing budget (logistics and account) and hundreds of other household things can be related to supply chain management. Just misplace one spoon from the kitchen and your mother will know (stock analysis)! So, all those SCM qualities are generally possessed by women.
We look forward to the more active participation of women in the field of Procurement & Supply Chain Management.
